| Description |
Villa-Castle Gallenga-Stuart, a beautiful place and full of magic, located just ten minutes from Perugia, in a village called "Solomeo" and considered one of the most renowned in the area.
The beautiful property overlooking Mount Subasio and Assisi and Perugia dominates the countryside from atop a low hill.
From researches conducted at the State Archives of Perugia is considered that, in 1872, a Mr. Gustavo Rosati sold the property, then a castle, to the family Gallenga.
After purchasing the property, Gallenga Romeo and his wife, the English noblewoman Mary Stuart Montgomery, turned the villa-castle building in neo-Gothic architecture with references typically English.
The architect Biscarini, the most prominent in those times of Perugia, was surrounded by the greatest artists of the time who worked in the villa for about twenty years.
The villa is located in the northernmost point of the park that surrounds it and it is on four levels including a basement. The latter is accessed from both the ground floor and the garden and this part of the villa was designed for greenhouses, wine cellars, wood-stores and warehouses. On the ground floor the main entrance, still with its original door in perfect condition, is framed by a square stone porch and decorated with family crests and painted stucco.
The villa has been completely renovated outside and the roof has been redone from scratch.
All the rooms of the villa-castle are still decorated with original frescoes and stucco. The main staircase leading to the first floor is made of marble steps and develops within the leaning tower building. Here we also find a library with a small bay-window, frescoed ceilings and stucco.
Two of the 25 rooms were completely renovated while the others are left to the needs of potential buyers. The structure could be used for apartments or accommodation.
The park, more than six hectares, extends around the villa and is fenced with two main entrances with gates. These are in the middle of a stone and brick travertine as well as two side pedestrian gates at the sides. The park is crossed, to the villa, from a wide avenue of pine trees, green areas designed by lawns and wooded areas with tall trees.
The villa-castle is structured as follows:
Basement (sqm 400): woodshed, cellars, storerooms, wharehouse etc....;
Ground floor (sqm 570): kitchens, diningrooms, salons etc...;
Mezzanine (sqm 50): reserved for cleaning equipment and different utilities;
